Every year, I struggle finding the best gifts to give my parents and in-laws. It’s so tricky because they are at a stage in life where they have had time to accumulate everything they need, and they are very strategic about the items they surround themselves with. They love to have items that serve a purpose, but often times they just buy what they want when they want it (similar to husbands). I have found that the best gifts for parents aren’t always the ones that are extremely expensive, but rather are very impactful – whether that’s sentimentally or practically. Here are some of my favorite gifts I have given in the past and some I plan to give our parents this year.
1. Family Tree Chart

This is the third year I have shared about these, but I will never stop shouting it from the roof top! These family tree charts are breathtakingly beautiful and such an impactful gift. 4. Custom Photo Calendar
We have been giving these to my parents for the last 10 years. It is so personal and they will love looking back at memories for the entire year to come. It doesn’t take a ton of time to create, but be sure to order in enough time to allow for processing before the holidays.
5. Apple TV
This is a game-changer. Our TV isn’t a smart TV, but with this little beauty, it essentially becomes one. It connects to iPhones really seamlessly (as all Apple product do). It’s a great way to access all of the apps and streaming services we know and love on any TV.
6. Epsom Salt
Everyone, no matter the age, gets a little sore. Epsom salt baths are so therapeutic and soothe every ache and pain. It might seem like a little bit of a joke, but it’s totally practical and every last grain of salt will get used!
7. Ancestry DNA + Health Test
You have probably seen ancestry tests around, but the health test combination not only tells you your origin, ethnicity, and DNA matches but also personal traits and health reports. I think it’s such a fun thing to do if they haven’t already.
8. Cord Burritos
Back again with another Andar gift because these are so function and beautiful! Everyone has cords that are a jumbled mess. I love the different colors in this package. It’s a gift you can be sure will be used.
9. Camping Chair
A good camping chair is not really something you realize you need until you are stuck sitting in a crappy one. A heavy duty camping chair is so versatile – from camping to the sidelines of soccer games, you’ll be surprised how often you can use a camp chair. It is tricky to cook for two people, especially when you are used to cooking for a crowd. These recipes look delicious and are perfect for empty nesters (or even a great gift for newlyweds!)
11. Grandparent + Grandchild Pen Pal Kit
I found this darling kit at Anthropologie and I thought it made the most special gift. It gives you everything you need to have a fun penpal experience. The envelopes are easily recognizable so your kids will be thrilled when they see them in the mail. It has activities and questions to send back and forth and would strengthen any long-distance grandparent/grandchild relationship.
12. Milk Frother + Hot Chocolate
This frother makes the perfect single serving of hot milk for cocoa or coffee. It works really well and really quickly. Add your favorite cocoa mix and you have a gift that will keep on giving though the winter months and all year round.
