Açaí bowls are one of our favorite quick summer snacks. They’re essentially a thick, fruity smoothie bowl that you can top with fruit, granola, nut butter, and/or honey.
All four of my kids are on our neighborhood swim team this year, meaning I’m always looking for a filling and nutritious snack to feed them before we head to the pool for a full evening of practice. This recipe is just that! It’s easy to pull together and pleases the crowd.
We’ll definitely be eating them all summer long!
Of course, açaí berries are one of the essential ingredients in açaí bowls. I like to buy the frozen puree from Trader Joe’s, which is easy to keep on hand whenever we want to make this recipe. We use three packets to make enough smoothie for our family of six.
Once you have your berries, the rest of the ingredients are easy to pull together, including frozen bananas and fruit, spinach (Why not add some extra nutrients? The kids will never know it’s there!), a liquid for blending, and whatever toppings you want to include.
Sometimes I arrange fruit and toppings in my handy snack tray so that the bowls are ready to assemble quickly. The kids have fun customizing their own bowls—everybody walks away happy! Some of our favorite toppings include bananas, kiwi, strawberries, granola, nut butter, and honey.
Another pro tip: heat up your nut butter and honey for a few seconds for easier drizzling on your açaí bowls!
Once you blend your ingredients, you’re ready to top them and enjoy. If your family is like mine, they’ll be begging to repeat this recipe over and over!
