With Halloween fast approaching, it’s time to put on our black hats and brew up some creative costumes! I have always loved putting together family themed halloween costumes, and thankfully my kids (and husband) are all kind enough to indulge me! It was a fun, creative outlet for me when we were young, newly married, and poor to find scrappy ways to bring them to life. It’s evolved into a tradition that I treasure and fun for the entire family. We study the original inspiration and hunt out pieces that will pull our vision to life. Thrift finds and hand-me-downs along with old scraps makes a homemade costume simple, affordable, and a memory your kids will never forget!
In case you are feeling a little low on inspiration this year, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and see all the Hanks’ family Halloween costumes over the years!
Our first year together, we put a whole new spin on the idea of “falling in love.” I’d tumble down any hill after this fella and his poor broken crown.
We were attached at the hip as two parts of one pair.
The addition of Kate to our family added an extra element of fun as our couple costumes became trios. The Flintstones were the perfect first choice for us and our little Pebbles.
Two-step the night away before you crash in a candy coma – it’s the makings of a rootin’ tootin’ Halloween night.
This is paws-ibly the most adorable duo of cute and cuddly kittens you’ll ever see.
Once we added Bam-Bam to the crew, can you blame us for doing Flintstones round two?
In case you didn’t know, the yellow brick road has the best candy on the block!
These costumes took some “faith, trust, and a little pixie dust.” But then we just followed the second star on the right and trick-or-treated straight on to morning!
Justin deserves a medal for being the ultimate good sport. How many men look this happy when their wives force them to wear head-to-toe spandex?
When a little spark turns in to a raging inferno, you can count these heroes to save the day. And that Dallas Dalmatian? It can’t be “matched.”
If I had to pick a favorite set of family costumes, this would be it! It turned out better than I had even imagined. These little squealing piglets loved their shipping box houses and our little bad wolf was a fright the whole night!
“Farm Boy, speak only in movie lines.”
“As you wish.”
Fly away to Paradise Falls, but don’t forget your candy to snack on during the trip!
Having Richard Simmons as your date doubles as a great way to burn off those calories as you gobble down goodies. And when you’re Suzanne Somers, you work that thigh-master all night long!
We’re entirely bonkers, but all the best people are.
When Justin decided to grow facial hair, it became harder to incorporate into the costumes. So instead, we decided to center our plans around his burly beard. It’s gnome secret it turned out great!
Have I mentioned what a good sport Justin is? Ha! He puts on the greatest show!
Last year, the force was with us as we gathered together to fight the dark side. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to imagine topping our little rebel fighters and jedi!
We might have a few tricks left up our sleeves! What do you think we’ll be for Halloween this year?
