With cooler weather and the changing of seasons, I always get excited for the change in cooking and baking.  I love eating in the crisp, outdoor air of our Carolina room with a big bowl of soup.  One recipe we have on repeat each fall is chili.  This is the chili recipe my mom made when I was growing up.  She got it from my aunt, Sue, and it’s still a family favorite.

Walmart+

I ordered all of these ingredients from Walmart.  I love that with my Walmart+ membership, I can place an order online and enjoy free same-day delivery from my local store on groceries and more (with a $35 minimum order & restrictions apply).  And I always know I’m getting the same low prices that I enjoy in store.  And I can expect the same fresh, high quality ingredients.  I’ve been using my Walmart+ membership for free grocery delivery for over a year and it has saved me an incredible amount of time and money.

Ingredients

This chili recipe consists of mostly canned products that you throw into a pot and heat through!  The only thing I add to the original recipe is a couple bell peppers.  When you chop them up small, they’re barely visible in the chili, so it’s a nice way to add a few more vegetables.

Assembly

To prepare this easy chili, heat a large pot over medium high heat.  Add the ground beef, onion, peppers, salt and pepper.  Cook until the beef is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.

Add chili beans, kidney beans, tomatoes and tomato sauce (all undrained).  Heat through.

Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream, diced avocado and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.  We also love the hint of lime tortilla chips as a side.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 red bell pepper diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 3 15.5-oz cans chili beans
  • 1 15.5-oz can kidney beans
  • 1 14.5-oz can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 15-oz can tomato sauce

Instructions

  • Heat a large pot over medium high heat.

  • Add the ground beef, onion, peppers, salt and pepper.  Cook until the beef is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
  • Add chili beans, kidney beans, tomatoes and tomato sauce (all undrained).  Heat through.

  • Serve with shredded cheese, diced avocado, sour cream, and tortilla chips
