This bonus room has been a really fun project to tackle. We’ve used the third floor space for many things over the years – a play room, a school room (during the pandemic), and even a guest room. But it was finally time to designate the space as a hangout spot for teens (and the whole family). We wanted a space we could use for movie watching, cuddling up for a nap, playing games, enjoying snacks, and hanging out away from the rest of the house. We accomplished all that and are so happy with how it all came together!

I’ve linked all the sources I could here. If you’d like to watch the whole process play out, check out my “Bonus Room” highlight on Instagram.

WALLS AND FLOORS

  • Paint: Behr Blue Metal: I used eggshell for the walls and semi-gloss for all the trim
  • Floors: Red oak that we re-finished with a stain combo of 50% weathered oak and 50% classic gray
  • Can lights: Adjustable kelvin to change the temperature of the light
  • Ceiling fan: We painted this to match the walls/ceiling
  • Sconces in stairwell
