DIY Yarn Pumpkins with Walmart+
Do you ever find yourself scrolling your phone while watching TV? I am totally guilty! Honestly, I hadn’t thought about it much until my son came home from school informing me that 88% of adults are on their phones while watching TV (apparently it was a topic of conversation in his class!)
This statistic shocked me and made me a little embarrassed. We limit screen time for our kids, and I should be following suit. Yet I do like to stay busy with my hands while sitting in front of the TV in the evening, so I decided I should swap out my phone for some of the activities I used to enjoy in high school, like needlepoint and other crafts.
These DIY yarn pumpkins are one of those projects I’ve picked up during TV time. It’s kind of mindless, relaxing, and fulfilling when it’s all done!
Using Walmart+ for Affordable Crafting
I used Walmart+ to get all of the supplies for the craft. Walmart+ makes it so easy to have craft supplies, pantry staples, fresh produce, toiletries, and everything else delivered straight to your door. Just order everything through the app and schedule a drop-off time that’s convenient for you. It’s a game changer!
I was able to find everything I needed on the Walmart+ app, and they have tons of yarn options at affordable prices. (Yarn can be surprisingly expensive at other stores.)
So without further ado, here’s a quick guide to these cute fall DIY yarn pumpkins.
DIY Yarn Pumpkin Supplies
- 3.8" foam balls
- 4.7" foam balls
- 5" foam balls
- Spade drill bits
- Cordless drill
- Serrated knife
- Bulky yarn
- Plastic yarn needles
- Sticks
DIY Yarn Pumpkin Steps
1. Drill a hole through the center of the foam ball. (I used a 3/4" drill bit for the 3.8" balls, a 7/8"drill bit for the 4.7" balls, and a 1" drill bit for the 5" balls.)
2. Cut a small piece of each end off.
3. Shape one side to make it more rounded.
4. Wrap yarn around the foam ball through the hole. To do so, cut a 6-8 foot piece of yarn and thread it through your needle. Hold a piece of the yarn onto the ball and cover it as you wrap around to secure.
5. When the yarn is running out, cut a new piece and tie the 2 together in a spot where the knot will be in the center of the ball.
6. Cut off excess yarn. The inside will be so tight once you get to the end that you only need to pull the yarn through the center and cut it off. It will stay in place because of tension.
7. Press a stick into the top for the stem.
And that’s it! These DIY yarn pumpkins have been fun to create and a great way to keep my hands busy while watching TV. I’m glad I found a productive distraction to cut down on my phone time!
